About
Michelle Madasamy, NCTM, has pursued a varied career as a performer and music educator. Her fifteen years of diverse teaching experiences include Yamaha group piano courses for children, applied music theory at the collegiate level, K-2 general music, and pre-college private lessons. Her goal as a teacher is to provide students with wonderful musical experiences that inspire them to make music long after their formal lessons have ended. To that end, she pursued three years of specialized training with renowed teacher Irina Gorin on the intracacies of teaching piano technique, so that the right habits are ingrained into the muscle memory from the start.
Michelle is a former U.S. Navy Musician. She performed as a solo pianist, in the Jazz Diplomats Combo, Navy Band Great Lakes Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Big Band, for a total of 287 concerts and over two million audience members throughout Navy Region Midwest. Other notable recitals include solo recitals at the Music Institute of Chicago (Lake Forest, IL), Nichols Concert Hall (Evanston, IL), the Mannes Beethoven Institute (New York, NY), Goldmark Recital Hall (New York, NY), and collaborative recitals at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts (Brookville, NY). Currently, she is an active collaborative pianist within the Metrowest Boston area, and performs as part of the Delphinium Duo with flutist Jessica Smith.
Michelle holds a M.S. in music education, and a B.M. in piano performance. She continued artistic studies at Mannes School of Music (The New School) with Yuri Kim Neubert. She became a NY state certified music educator in 2014, and earned professional certification in teaching piano through the Music Teacher’s National Association in 2019. Her private students have won awards for musical excellence through competition and judged festivals, such as the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) and Lang Lang’s 101 Pianists.
